Bringing your newborn to a photoshoot (or inviting a photographer into your home) can feel a little overwhelming — especially in those early days when everything is new, emotional and beautifully chaotic.

One of the most common things I hear from parents is:

“What if my baby doesn’t settle?”

“What if I don’t know what to do?”

The truth is — you don’t need to worry about any of that 🤍

Your newborn session is designed to be calm, flexible and completely baby-led.

Here’s exactly what you can expect.

Before Your Session

Before your session, I’ll guide you through everything you need to know — including simple preparation tips to help the day feel easy and relaxed.

If you haven’t already, you can read my guide on what to bring to your newborn session, which covers the essentials (spoiler: not much at all — I provide almost everything).

Whether you’ve booked a studio session or an in-home lifestyle session, the goal is the same:

👉 to create a calm space where you can simply show up and enjoy the experience.

When You Arrive (or I Arrive to You)

If you’re coming to my Clitheroe studio, you’ll walk into a warm, quiet space where everything is already prepared — wraps, props, soft textures and gentle lighting.

If you’ve chosen a lifestyle session at home, I’ll bring a small selection of wraps, posing support (like a posing bag) and one simple prop, so we can still create softly styled images alongside natural moments.

There’s no rushing. No pressure.

Just time to settle in 🤍

A Baby-Led, Gentle Approach

Every newborn session is completely guided by your baby.

Some babies fall into a deep sleep straight away, while others need a little more time — and that’s perfectly okay.

We allow plenty of time for:

  • Feeding
  • Cuddles
  • Settling
  • Breaks whenever needed

Nothing is forced, and your baby’s comfort and safety always come first.

This is why sessions typically last around 2–3 hours — so everything can unfold naturally, without stress.

Softly Posed & Natural Images

During your session, I create a beautiful mix of:

  • Softly posed newborn portraits (using wraps, gentle positioning and natural tones)
  • Natural family images with parents and siblings
  • Detail shots of tiny fingers, toes and delicate features

Even during in-home sessions, I combine relaxed, lifestyle moments with a few softly guided poses — giving you a complete gallery that feels both natural and timeless.

You Don’t Need to Know What to Do

This is something I always want parents to hear:

👉 You don’t need to pose

👉 You don’t need to prepare perfectly

👉 You don’t need to worry about your baby “behaving”

I gently guide you through everything — from how to hold your baby, to where to stand, to creating those natural, connected moments that feel like you.

All you need to do is be present with your baby 🤍

Including Parents & Siblings

Your newborn session isn’t just about baby — it’s about your growing family.

Parents and siblings are always welcome, and these images often become the most treasured ones.

Don’t worry if toddlers are a little unpredictable — I keep things relaxed and work around them, capturing genuine moments rather than forcing anything.

After Your Session

After your session, I carefully edit your images in my soft, natural style.

You’ll then receive your private online gallery, where you can:

Purchase additional images or prints if you wish

These are the photographs that will tell the story of your baby’s very first days — the ones you’ll come back to again and again.

Looking Ahead

Many families choose to continue documenting their baby’s first year — from those sleepy newborn days to smiles, sitting and first milestones.

You might also love a sitter session later on, or if you’re still expecting, you can explore my maternity sessions to capture the beginning of your story.

A Calm, Beautiful Experience

Above all, your newborn session is about more than photos.

It’s about slowing down, taking a breath, and capturing this fleeting moment in a way that feels calm, natural and true to you.

Because these early days pass so quickly…

but the memories don’t have to 🤍
