Newborn & Baby Photographer in Ribble Valley, Lancashire
Choosing when to book professional photos of your baby can feel overwhelming — especially in those early, sleep-deprived weeks.
Should you book a newborn session?
Wait until they’re sitting?
Do you need both?
As a newborn and baby photographer serving families across Ribble Valley and Lancashire, this is one of the most common questions I’m asked — so I thought I’d gently guide you through the difference.
There’s no “right” answer. It simply depends on what you’d love to remember most.
Newborn Sessions – Tiny Details, Curled Up & Sleepy
Newborn sessions take place within the first 5–14 days after birth.
This is when your baby is:
Still beautifully curled
Very sleepy
Tiny and delicate
Happy to be gently posed
These sessions focus on preserving those fleeting newborn details — flaky skin, tiny fingers wrapped around yours, soft lashes resting on rosy cheeks.
My newborn sessions are baby-led and calm. I use soft, neutral colours and simple styling so your images feel timeless — not themed or trend-based. The focus is always on your baby, not busy props.
Many parents tell me afterwards they’re so grateful they didn’t wait — because those early days disappear faster than you expect.
If you want to remember just how small they were… newborn is the session for you.
Sitter Sessions – Personality Beginning to Shine
Sitter sessions usually take place around 7–8 months, when your baby can sit confidently but isn’t yet crawling everywhere.
This stage is pure magic.
Your baby is:
Full of expressions
Smiling and giggling
Chubby, curious, and full of personality
Making eye contact and engaging beautifully
Unlike newborn sessions, sitter sessions aren’t about curled-up poses — they’re about connection, character and those cheeky little smiles.
I keep these sessions simple and softly styled, using gentle tones and natural textures so your baby remains the focus. The result is a collection of images that feel fresh, warm and full of life.
If you feel like you missed the newborn stage — don’t worry. The sitter stage is just as special, just in a different way.
Do You Need Both?
Not at all.
Some families choose newborn sessions to remember how tiny their baby was.
Others prefer to wait until personality develops and book a sitter session instead.
Both tell a beautiful story — just different chapters.
And if you’re unsure, I’m always happy to help you decide what feels right for your family.
What Makes My Sessions Different?
Families across Ribble Valley and Lancashire choose my studio because sessions are:
Calm and completely baby-led
Styled in soft, timeless colours
Fairly priced, with clear packages
Delivered within 1–2 weeks
Designed to feel relaxed — never rushed
I also run seasonal mini sessions throughout the year (starting from just £75), which can be a lovely option if you’d like something shorter and more affordable while still capturing meaningful moments.
Whether it’s a newborn wrapped peacefully in soft layers or a giggling 8-month-old sitting proudly on their own — my goal is always the same:
To create natural, heartfelt images that feel like your baby.
Still Unsure? That’s Completely Normal.
The truth is — there’s no wrong time to document your baby’s first year.
What matters most is that you capture it.
If you’re currently expecting, I recommend booking your newborn session during pregnancy to secure availability.
If your baby is already a few months old, the sitter stage (around 7–8 months) is a beautiful milestone to plan for.
And if you’re simply not sure — just get in touch. I’m always happy to chat and guide you gently.
Because these days may feel long…
But this season is so very short.
