5 Toddler-Friendly Walks in Ribble Valley

Perfect for Mother’s Day Memories

Mother’s Day looks a little different when you have a toddler.

It’s slower.

It’s muddier.

It involves snacks, little legs that suddenly can’t walk anymore, and tiny hands reaching for yours.

But it’s also one of the most beautiful seasons of motherhood.

If you’re spending Mother’s Day in Ribble Valley with your little one, here are five toddler-friendly walks that are manageable, scenic, and perfect for making simple, meaningful memories together.

1. Clitheroe Castle Grounds

📍 Clitheroe, Lancashire

If you want something easy and relaxed, Clitheroe Castle grounds are perfect for toddlers.

There are paved paths for little legs (and pushchairs), open grass for running around, and plenty of space to explore safely. You can wander through the gardens, spot birds, and finish with a coffee in town.

It’s simple, central, and ideal if you don’t want a long walk but still want to get outside together.

Where to stop after:

The Chocolate Works for a Mother’s Day treat.

2. Edisford Bridge Riverside Walk

📍 Edisford Rd, Clitheroe BB7 3LJ

A local favourite for families.

The riverside path near Edisford Bridge is mostly flat and open — perfect for toddlers who like a bit of freedom. There’s space to explore, throw sticks in the water, and enjoy the peaceful Ribble Valley countryside.

It’s especially lovely in spring when everything starts to feel fresh again.

This is one of those walks where the memories aren’t planned — they just happen.

3. Beacon Fell Country Park

📍 Carwags Ln, Preston PR3 2ES

If you’re looking for something slightly bigger but still manageable, Beacon Fell has clearly marked trails and shorter circular routes suitable for young children.

Woodland paths, fresh air, and plenty of space for little explorers make this a wonderful Mother’s Day option.

There are toilets and a café nearby, which always makes things easier when you’re out with toddlers.

Where to stop after:

The Pavilion Café inside the park.

4. Gisburn Forest (Short Sculpture Trail Area)

📍 Gisburn Forest and Stocks - Forestry England, Slaidburn BB7 4TS

Gisburn Forest is beautiful all year round, and you don’t need to tackle the longer routes to enjoy it with a toddler.

Stick to the shorter, wider paths near the visitor centre or sculpture trail areas. They’re easier underfoot and perfect for little legs.

Spring woodland light, birdsong, and that calm forest atmosphere make it feel like a proper Mother’s Day escape — even if you’re carrying snacks and wipes in your bag.

5. Spring Wood & Whalley Abbey Grounds

📍  Whalley, Clitheroe BB7 9AF,  Whalley, Lancashire BB7 9SS

For something a little quieter, Spring Wood in Whalley offers short woodland loops that are especially lovely in spring.

If you time it right, you might even catch bluebells in bloom. Pair it with a gentle wander around Whalley Abbey grounds and you have a peaceful, memory-filled morning.

It’s not about distance — it’s about being together.

🤍 Mother’s Day Isn’t About Big Plans

When you have a toddler, Mother’s Day isn’t about long lie-ins or fancy restaurants.

It’s muddy shoes.

Sticky hands.

And the way they look up at you like you’re their whole world.

These are the moments that feel ordinary now — but one day, you’ll realise they were everything.

If you’d love to celebrate this season in a meaningful way, I’m currently offering relaxed outdoor family sessions across Ribble Valley, as well as limited Mother’s Day mini sessions in my Clitheroe studio.

Simple. Natural. Full of connection.

Because this chapter doesn’t stay small for long.
