5 Things to Know Before Your Newborn Session

So you can relax, enjoy, and soak in every little moment.

Bringing your baby in for their first photo session can feel exciting—but also a bit overwhelming. I completely understand. As a mum myself and a photographer who has gently guided many families through this special milestone, I’m here to make it as calm and comfortable as possible.

Here are five things to help you feel prepared and confident ahead of your newborn session:

1. Your Baby Runs the Show (And That’s a Good Thing)

Your little one is the star—and that means we work entirely on their schedule. We pause for feeds, cuddles, and nappy changes as often as needed. There’s no pressure to “perform.” A calm baby is a happy baby, and those gentle moments are often the most beautiful to capture.

2. Keep Things Simple

I recommend dressing your baby in something easy to remove, and keeping them warm before the session. You don’t need to bring much—I have soft wraps, textures, and timeless little outfits available here in the studio. The goal is to create images that are pure, relaxed, and all about your baby’s natural beauty.

3. It’s Best to Book Early

The ideal time for newborn photos is between 5–14 days old, when babies are usually sleepier and more curled up. If you're expecting, it’s best to reserve your session based on your due date. I’ll then pencil you in and adjust once baby arrives.

4. My Studio is Designed for Calm

When you arrive, I want you to feel instantly at ease. My home studio in Clitheroe is warm, quiet, and softly lit—designed with both parents and babies in mind. You can sit back, have a tea, and relax while I gently work with your little one.

5. These Moments Are Fleeting—Capture Them Now

The newborn phase passes in a blur of sleepy snuggles and soft sighs. Photos from this time become cherished memories—reminders of just how tiny and precious your baby once was. You’ll never regret capturing this chapter.
